Anaeho Omalu Beach

The marvelous experiences that await you at every nook and corner of Big Island can not be found in any other place in Hawaii. Varied topography followed by several climatic zones within the periphery of this island turns it into the paradise of adventure seekers both at land and at sea. So far as the Big Island beaches are concerned, they are markedly different both in appearances and character from their siblings in the neighboring islands. Huge surfs, long stretches of strips of sands surrounded by jagged lava rocks, variety in the sand colors that vary from white to black to even green….all promise to give you a superb beach experience much different from those you experienced in other beaches in Hawaii.

The 'Anaeho'omalu Beach

The 'Anaeho'omalu Beach is one of the most expansive beaches in Big Island. In local language it is pronounced as Ah nye ho-oh mah- loo. But this proves to be too much for most of the foreign tongues to pronounce it properly. So the task is made easy for you—you can also call it A-bay.

A-Bay is situated on the 20 miles north of Kona at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. It is hidden behind the Royal Waikoloan Hotel. But you can take the public access on the South end. To reach this wonderful beach, you have to go towards the ocean along Waikoloa Beach drive till you reach the Kings shops from where you have to take a left turn towards the sign that says BEACH.

The 'Anaeho'omalu Beach is a quiet beach with long, white expanse of sun and sand alongside a calm ocean. The rows of palm trees add to the greenery of the place. All together it is a very well maintained beach.

The sea

The sea here is calm, surfs are not rough. It's actually a well-protected bay. When the rest of the island experiences huge surfs, even then the sea in 'Anaeho'omalu Beach remains calm and quiet. As such it becomes an ideal place for swimming and good deal of snorkeling. In addition to that 'Anaeho'omalu Beach is also a good destination for such water sports as windsurfing and diving. On the north end of the beach, you will find Snorkel gear, kayaks, and boogie boards for rent.

Here in this beach you will come to find out some nice history plaques. These give you information about the historic fish ponds that fall directly behind it. Take a walk to the ancient fishponds and petroglyph fields.

You can also find an exciting hiking trail that runs along the shorelines touching a few busy tide pools. The trail leads to Hilton Waikoloa. The trail is made interesting with the presence of lava rocks and corals. Don’t forget to put on the shoes before treading on this path.

'Anaeho'omalu Beach is a well maintained beach that provides lots of facilities. The beach is provided with nice restrooms for the convenience of the beach hoppers who often spend the whole day swimming and snorkeling here. As a whole, 'Anaeho'omalu Beach is perfect for a day out with your family and friends.
