The Big Island was born some one million years ago and it happens to be the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain. Features of the Onekahakaha Beach Park
This beautiful beach park is characterized by a shallow, enclosed tide pool. This has resulted in a cove of white sand separated from the open sea by a heavy boulder breakwater. As a result you get a current free swimming area which is also quite shallow. This is the reason why Onekahakaha beach is the favorite destination of the families with small children. The grassy surrounding with shady trees in the adjacent park under the backdrop of black lava rocks makes the beach even more alluring and make an ideal spot for a day out with your family.
In addition to spectacular view, this beach park offers you many facilities that turn it into a hotspot for beachgoers. In addition to natural shades created by grass and trees, you will come to find pavilions and picnic tables. For the ultimate picnic fun, you can rent BBQ grills too. In addition to that, beach has the restrooms and showers for the convenience of the day spenders on the beach. A life guard is also posted here all the time.
Parking facility is available. But to ensure a place in the parking and to avoid crowd it is rather prudent to come early. Though the water is calm here, it is generally advised that before stepping into the sea, watch for the height of the surfs.
