Here are the brief descriptions of golf courses in four major islands of Hawaii
Golf courses in Oahu
Most of the Hawaii golf courses are concentrated in this small island. Among total thirty seven golf courses, fourteen golf courses fall in the golf resort category, where you can enjoy your dream golf holiday. At the foot of the Pali Mountain, lies the Koolau Golf Club which is considered the world’s most challenging golf course. It is considered Hawaii’s most scenic golf course too. Nearby Luana Hills Country Club is famous for offering the panoramic views of the Koolau Mountains.
You will find three other picturesque golf courses along the south coast of Oahu--- Ko'Olina, Coral Creek and the Hawaii Prince Golf Club at Ewa. These are one of the most alluring golf courses in Hawaii with manicured landscapes and artificial lakes and waterfalls, lines of palm trees and even golf clinics. Olomana Golf Links, Bay View Golf Park and Alii Wai Golf course are three other famous golf courses in this island.
Kauai Golf Courses
Although golf holidays are less popular in this island with only seven 18 hole golf courses, yet some of them are most spectacular. As for instance, Princeville golf course in the north of Kauai, combines challenge with scenic beauty. Being one of the top rated golf courses in Hawaii, it is slightly in the higher end of the price.
In the south east corner of Kauai, you will find even more challenging and more expensive Kauai Lagoons courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Mokihana Course however offers you a more relaxing and more forgiving golfing experience for an affordable price.
The Poipu championship / resort course is recognized by PGA. So is the Kiahuna Golf Club, which is designed in a Disneyland-style with several lakes and unusual hazards such as lava tubes, and spider caves.
Maui Golf Courses
Another wonderful place to have a golf holiday is in Maui, where 5 of the 15 golf courses are classified as "resort courses", strategically perched against luxury resorts. The golf courses in Wailua region in South Maui are famous for perfect manicured looks, while, the Scottish style Maui Lani links course is considered one of the better valued golf courses in Hawaii. At Kapalua in the north of West Maui, there are three championship courses among which Kapalua Plantation course is most famous and most expensive.
Another famous golf course in Maui is situated at Pukalani in central Maui, at the height of 1,200 feet. This is for a relaxing golfing experience with spectacular views of West Maui Mountains and soothing breezes.
Big Island Golf Courses
This island is the home of fourteen major golf courses. Eight among them can be found along the North West coastal region of Kohala. All of them are located alongside exclusive International resorts. The interesting volcanic landscape and towering Mauna Kea mountain adds to the uniqueness of these golf courses. The Waikoloa Beach Resort, Hapuna Golf Course and Mauna Kea Course are the three other famous golf courses in this island.
The Hualalai Golf Club is located in the hills of Mt. Hualalai near Kailua Town on the west coast of the island. The Senior PGA Championship is held here in January each year.
